GTURN performing and visual arts
 

Dear visitor,

As a professional dancer I was disturbed by the fact that dance-performance is so short lasting and considered less important than music, visual arts and theatre. As a maker I set a goal to make dance as important as all other arts. I thought I could give dance long-lasting and more important place in the arts by joining sport and dance performances. Sport and dance are both physical activities. But sport gains much more recognition because it took the commercial road, is easy to understand, heroic and nationally bound. I used this powerful and recognisable advantage of sport and was exploring the boundary between sport and dance performance.

At the moment I am inspired by the webcam and photography. I realised I can achieve my goal by taking photos and recording my body with a computer’s webcam. I started to use my body as a medium. I created a series of photos where I demonstrate conversation through a webcam. Body is in service of the webcam and composition approached form visual point of view. I used powerful impact photographic work has on the viewer and give dance a longer life.
